Inner Development and Green Skills:

An Essential Part of Climate Literacy and Collective Action

Please join us for an event at Harvard University to hear about a new collaboration between US Government agencies, education NGOs and the international Inner Development Goals initiative to produce a ‘transformational skills guide’ as part of an eagerly anticipated update of NOAA’s climate literacy toolkit.

Hosted by Matthew T. Lee
Director of the Flourishing Network at Harvard’s Human Flourishing Program.

The event will unpack why understanding the role of human qualities and capabilities is an important part of climate literacy, what the implications of this are for the ‘green skills’ policy agenda, and how the Inner Development Goals framework has been adopted to play a central role in the new guide. A keynote and discussion panel featuring field-leading thought leaders will then explore the work that’s now required to integrate the development of ‘inner’ green skills into the full range of educational settings, from schools and colleges, to museums and aquariums, to businesses and communities.

Inner Development Goals

In 2015, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provided a comprehensive plan for a sustainable world by 2030. However, progress is not happening fast enough, and we urgently need to increase our collective abilities to face and work effectively with complex challenges.

This is why we are co-creating the Inner Development Goals (IDG) – a non-profit, open-source initiative committed to fostering inner development towards more sustainable futures. We research, collect, and communicate science-based skills and qualities that help us to live purposeful, sustainable, and productive lives.

IDG Framework

The Inner Development Goals Framework simplifies a complex field of human development to help us better identify understand communicate develop integrate the inner skills needed for sustainable development.
